Sigurður og Eindriði ungi, Önundur Símonarson, Frírekur kæna og enn fleiri höfðingjar héldu saman flokkinum, leifðu skipin í Raumsdal og fóru síðan til Upplanda.

Erlingur skakki og Magnús konungur fóru liði sínu norður til Kaupangs og lögðu land allt undir sig hvar sem þeir fóru. Síðan lét Erlingur stefna Eyraþing. Var þar Magnús til konungs tekinn um land allt. Dvaldist Erlingur þar litla hríð því að honum þóttu Þrændir ekki vera trúlegir þeim feðgum. Var Magnús þá kallaður konungur yfir öllu landi.

Hákon konungur var maður heldur fríður sýnum, vel vaxinn, hár og mjór. Hann var herðibreiður mjög. Því kölluðu liðsmenn hann Hákon herðibreið. En fyrir því að hann var ungur að aldri höfðu aðrir höfðingjar ráðagerð með honum. Hann var kátur og lítillátur í máli, leikinn og hafði ungmennisæði. Vinsæll var hann við alþýðu.
