Torf-Einarr jarl gat dóttur í œsku; sú hét Þórdís; hana fœddi Rǫgnvaldur jarl ok gipti hana Þorgeiri klaufa. Þeirra son var Einarr; hann fór til Orkneyja at finna frændr sína; þeir vildu eigi taka við frændsemi hans. Þá kaupir Einar í skipi með brœðrum tveimr, Vestmanni ok Vémundi; þeir fóru til Íslands ok sigldu fyrir norðan landið ok vestr um Sléttu í fjǫrðinn. Þeir settu øxi í Reistargnúp ok kǫlluðu því Øxarfjǫrð; þeir settu ǫrn upp fyrir vestan og kǫlluðu þar Arnarþúfu; en í þriðja stað settu þeir kross; þar nefndu þeir Krossás. Svá helguðu þeir sér allan Øxarfjǫrð.
