Maður hét Þorsteinn svarfaður son Rauðs ruggu í Naumudal;
hann átti Hildi dóttur Þráins svartaþurs. Þorsteinn fór til
Íslands og nam Svarfaðardal að ráði Helga. Börn hans voru þau
Karl hinn rauði, er bjó að Karlsá, og Guðrún, er átti Hafþór
víkingur. Þeirra börn voru þau Klaufi og Gróa, er átti Grís
gleðill.

Atli illingur hét maður; hann drap Hafþór, en setti Karl í
járn; þá kom Klaufi á óvart og drap Atla, en tók Karl úr
járni. Klaufi átti Yngvildi rauðkinn dóttur Ásgeirs
rauðfeldar, systur þeirra Óláfs völubrjóts og Þorleifs. Fyrir
þeim hjó hann jafnabelg, er þeir tóku í landi hans. Þá kvað
Þorleifur þetta:

Belg hjó fyrir mér

Böggvir snöggvan,

en fyrir Áleifi

ál ok verju.

Svá skal verða,

ef vér lifum,

við böl búinn

Böggvir höggvinn.

Þar af gerðist Svarfdæla saga.

Karl hét maður, er nam Strönd alla út frá Upsum til Mígandi.

Hámundur heljarskinn son Hjörs konungs miðlaði lönd við Örn
frænda sinn, þá er hann kom vestan, þann er numið hafði
Arnarfjörð, og bjó hann í Arnarnesi. Hans dóttir var Iðunn,
er átti Ásgeir rauðfeldur. Son Arnar var Narfi, er Narfasker
eru við kennd; hann átti Úlfheiði dóttur Ingjalds úr
Gnúpufelli. Þeirra synir voru þeir Ásbrandur, faðir
Hellu-Narfa, og Eyjólfur, faðir Þorvalds í Haga, og Helgi,
faðir Gríms á Kálfskinni.

Galmur hét maður, er nam Galmansströnd á milli Þorvaldsdalsár
og Reistarár. Hans son var Þorvaldur, faðir Orms, föður
Barna-Þórodds, föður Þórunnar, móður Dýrfinnu, móður
Þorsteins smiðs Skeggjasonar. Þorvaldi gaf Hámundur land
milli Reistarár og Hörgár, en hann hafði áður búið í
Þorvaldsdal.

Geirleifur hét maður; hann nam Hörgárdal upp til Myrkár; hann
var Hrappsson og bjó í Haganum forna. Hans son var Björn hinn
auðgi, er Auðbrekkumenn eru frá komnir.
