Kráku-Hreiðarr hét maðr, en Ófeigr lafskegg faðir hans, son Yxna-Þóris. Þeir feðgar bjǫggu skip sitt til Íslands, en er þeir komu í landsýn, gekk Hreiðarr til siglu ok sagðisk eigi mundu kasta ǫndvegissúlum fyrir borð, kvezt þat þykkja ómerkiligt at gera ráð sitt eptir því, kvezk heldr mundu heita á Þór, at hann vísaði honum til landa, ok kvezk þar mundu berjask til landa, ef áðr væri numit. En hann kom í Skagafjǫrð ok sigldi upp á Borgarsand til brots. Hávarðr hegri kom til hans ok bauð honum til sín, ok þar var hann um vetrinn í Hegranesi. Um várit spurði Hávarðr, hvað hann vildi ráða sinna, en hann kvezk ætla að berjask við Sæmund til landa. En Hávarðr latti þess ok kvað þat illa gefizk hafa, bað hann fara á fund Eiríks í Guðdǫlum ok taka ráð af honum, "því (at) hann er vitrastr maðr í héraði þessu". Hreiðarr gerði svá. En er hann (fann) Eirík, latti hann þessa ófriðar ok kvað það óhent, at menn deildi, meðan svá væri mannfátt á landi, kvezk heldr vilja gefa honum tunguna alla niðr frá Skálamýri, kvað þangað Þór hafa vísat honum ok þar stafn á horft, þá er hann sigldi upp á Borgarsand, kvað honum œrið þat landnám ok hans sonum. Þenna kost þekkisk Hreiðarr ok bjó á Steinsstǫðum; hann kaus at deyja í Mælifell. Son hans var Ófeigr þunnskeggr, faðir Bjarnar, fǫður Tungu-Steins.
