Ingólfur hinn sterki nam land inn frá Laxá til
Skraumuhlaupsár og bjó á Hólmslátri; hans bróðir var
Þorvaldur, faðir Þorleifs, er þar bjó síðan.

Óleifur hinn hvíti hét herkonungur; hann var son Ingjalds
konungs Helgasonar, Óláfssonar, Guðröðarsonar, Hálfdanarsonar
hvítbeins Upplendingakonungs. Óleifur hinn hvíti herjaði í
vesturvíking og vann Dyflinni á Írlandi og Dyflinnarskíri og
gerðist þar konungur yfir; hann fékk Auðar hinnar djúpauðgu
dóttur Ketils flatnefs; Þorsteinn rauður hét son þeirra.
Óleifur féll á Írlandi í orustu, en Auður og Þorsteinn fóru
þá í Suðureyjar. Þar fékk Þorsteinn Þuríðar dóttur Eyvindar
austmanns, systur Helga hins magra; þau áttu mörg börn.
Óláfur feilan hét son þeirra, en dætur Gróa og Álöf, Ósk og
Þórhildur, Þorgerður og Vigdís.

Þorsteinn gerðist herkonungur; hann réðst til félags með
Sigurði (jarli) hinum ríka, syni Eysteins glumru. Þeir unnu
Katanes og Suðurland, Ros og Merrhæfi og meir en hálft
Skotland. Gerðist Þorsteinn þar konungur yfir, áður Skotar
sviku hann, og féll hann þar í orustu.

Auður var þá á Katanesi, er hún spurði fall Þorsteins. Hún
lét þá gera knörr í skógi á laun, en er hann var búinn, hélt
hún út í Orkneyjar; þar gifti hún Gró, dóttur Þorsteins
rauðs; hún var móðir Grélaðar, er Þorfinnur hausakljúfur
átti. Eftir það fór Auður að leita Íslands; hún hafði á skipi
með sér tuttugu karla frjálsa.
