Eftir það fór Ingólfur vestur til Hjörleifshöfða, og er hann
sá Hjörleif dauðan, mælti hann: "Lítið lagðist hér fyrir
góðan dreng, er þrælar skyldu að bana verða, og sé eg svo
hverjum verða, ef eigi vill blóta." Ingólfur lét búa gröf
þeirra Hjörleifs og sjá fyrir skipi þeirra og fjárhlut.



Ingólfur gekk þá upp á höfðann og sá eyjar liggja í útsuður
til hafs; kom honum það í hug, að þeir mundu þangað hlaupið
hafa, því að báturinn var horfinn; fóru þeir að leita
þrælanna og fundu þá þar sem Eið heitir í eyjunum. Voru þeir
þá að mat, er þeir Ingólfur komu að þeim. Þeir urðu
felmtsfullir, og hljóp sinn veg hver. Ingólfur drap þá alla.
Þar heitir Dufþaksskor, er hann lést. Fleiri hljópu þeir
fyrir berg, þar sem við þá er kennt síðan. Vestmannaeyjar
heita þar síðan, er þrælarnir voru drepnir, því að þeir voru
Vestmenn.



Þeir Ingólfur höfðu með sér konur þeirra, er myrtir höfðu
verið; fóru þeir þá aftur til Hjörleifshöfða; var Ingólfur
þar vetur annan. En um sumarið eftir fór hann vestur með sjó.
Hann var hinn þriðja vetur undir Ingólfsfelli fyrir vestan
Ölfusá.



Þau missari fundu þeir Vífill og Karli öndvegissúlur hans við
Arnarhvol fyrir neðan heiði.
