Hákon fór norðan um vorið og hafði nær þremur tigum skipa. Víkverjar fóru af liði Hákonar fyrir með átta skipum og herjuðu á Mæri hvoratveggju. Engi maður mundi fyrr herjað hafa verið milli kaupanganna. Jón sonur Hallkels húks safnaði bóndaliði og fór að þeim og tók Kolbein óða og drap hvert barn af skipi hans. Síðan leitaði hann hinna og hitti þá við sjö skipum og börðust þeir en Hallkell faðir hans gerði eigi fara til móts við hann sem þeir höfðu mælt. Þar féll mart bónda góðra og varð sár sjálfur.

Hákon fór suður til Björgynjar með liði sínu og er þeir komu til Stjórnveltu spurðu þeir að Ingi konungur var áður austan kominn fyrir fám nóttum og Gregoríus til Björgynjar og þorðu þeir þá eigi þannug að halda. Þeir sigldu suður um Björgyn hið ytra og hittu þá þremur skipum lagsmenn Inga konungs er seinni höfðu orðið austan. Þar var Gyrður Ámundason fóstbróðir Inga konungs, hann átti Gyríði systur Gregoríusar, en annar Gyrður lögmaður Gunnhildarson, þriðji Hávarður klíningur. En Hákon lét drepa Gyrð Ámundason og annan Hávarð klíning en hann hafði Gyrð lögmann með sér og fór austur í Víkina.
