Þeir Gregoríus reru upp eftir ánni og létu hefja skipin ofan fyrir straumi að þeim Þorljóti. Þeir skutust á um hríð þar til er Þorljótur hljóp fyrir borð og hans félagar. Voru sumir drepnir en sumir komust á land.


Þá reru þeir Gregoríus að bryggjum og þegar lét Gregoríus skjóta upp bryggjum af sínu skipi undir fætur þeim Hákonar mönnum. Þá féll sá maður er merki hans bar er hann ætlaði til uppgöngu. Þá kvaddi Gregoríus til að taka upp merkið, Hall son Auðunar Hallssonar. Hann gerði svo og bar síðan merkið upp á bryggjur en Gregoríus gekk þegar eftir honum og skaut skildi fram yfir höfuð honum.


En þegar er Gregoríus kom á bryggjurnar og Hákonar menn kenndu hann þá hopuðu þeir og gafst rúmið þegar tvo vega. En er fleira kom liðið upp af skipum þá sótti Gregoríus og hans menn fram en Hákonar menn hopuðu fyrst og runnu því næst upp í býinn en þeir Gregoríus fylgdu þeim og ráku þá tvisvar upp úr bænum og drápu mart.


Engi var för skörulegri en sú, að máli manna, er Gregoríus fór fyrir því að Hákon hafði meir en fjóra tigu hundraða manna en Gregoríus eigi öll fjögur hundruð.


Þá mælti Gregoríus við Hall Auðunarson eftir orustu: "Margir menn þykja mér mjúkari í sóknum en þér Íslendingar því að þér eruð óvanari en vér Noregsmenn en engir þykja mér vopndjarfari en þér."


Þá kom Ingi litlu síðar og lét drepa marga menn þá er við Hákoni höfðu tekið en suma lét hann fé gjalda en hann brenndi býi fyrir sumum en suma rak hann úr landi og gerði þeim mart illt.


Hákon fór um veturinn hið efra norður í Þrándheim og kom fyrir páskir og tóku Þrændir hann þar til konungs, að hafa föðurleifð sína, þriðjung Noregs við Inga konung. Ingi var í Víkinni og Gregoríus og vildi Gregoríus fara norður að þeim en margir löttu og varð ekki úr á þeim vetri.
