Halldór sonur Brynjólfs gamla úlfalda var vitur maður og
höfðingi mikill.

Hann mælti svo þá er hann heyrði ræður manna að menn
misjöfnuðu mjög skaplyndi þeirra bræðra, Ólafs hins helga
konungs og Haralds, Halldór sagði svo: "Eg var með báðum þeim
bræðrum í kærleikum miklum og var mér hvorstveggja skaplyndi
kunnigt. Fann eg aldrei tvo menn skaplíkari. Þeir voru báðir
hinir vitrustu og hinir vopndjörfustu, menn ágjarnir til fjár
og ríkis, ríklyndir, ekki alþýðlegir, stjórnsamir og
refsingasamir. Ólafur konungur braut landsfólk til kristni og
réttra siða en refsaði grimmlega þeim er daufheyrðust við.
Þoldu landshöfðingjar honum eigi réttdæmi og jafndæmi og
reistu her í móti honum og felldu hann á eigu sinni sjálfs.
Varð hann fyrir það heilagur. En Haraldur herjaði til frægðar
sér og ríkis og braut allt fólk undir sig, það er hann mátti.
Féll hann og á annarra konunga eigu. Báðir þeir bræður voru
menn hversdaglega siðlátir og veglátir. Þeir voru og
víðförlir og eljamarmenn miklir og urðu af slíku víðfrægir og
ágætir."
