Síðan fór Haraldur konungur til Humbru og upp eftir ánni og
lagði þar við land. Þá voru jarlarnir uppi í Jórvík, Mörukári
og Valþjófur jarl bróðir hans, og höfðu óvígjan her. Þá lá
Haraldur konungur í Úsu er her jarla sótti ofan.

Þá gekk Haraldur konungur á land og tók að fylkja liði sínu.
Stóð fylkingararmurinn annar fram á árbakkann en annar vissi
upp á landið að díki nokkuru. Það var fen djúpt og breitt og
fullt af vatni. Jarlar létu síga fylking sína ofan með ánni
með öllum múginum. Konungsmerkið var nær ánni. Var þar
allþykkt fylkt en þynnst við díkið og lið það ótraustast. Þá
sóttu jarlar ofan með díkinu. Veik þá fyrir fylkingararmur
Norðmanna, sá er vissi að díkinu, en enskir menn sóttu þar
fram eftir þeim og hugðu að Norðmenn mundu flýja vilja. Fór
þar fram merki Mörukára.
