Magnús konungur Ólafsson hélt um haustið norður í Noreg eftir
Helganessbardaga. Þá spurði hann þau tíðindi að Haraldur
Sigurðarson, frændi hans, var kominn til Svíþjóðar og það með
að þeir Sveinn Úlfsson höfðu gert félag sitt og höfðu her
mikinn úti og ætluðu enn að legga undir sig Danaveldi en
síðan Noreg.

Magnús konungur býður leiðangri út úr Noregi og dregst honum
brátt her mikill. Hann spurði þá að þeir Haraldur og Sveinn
voru komnir til Danmerkur, brenndu þar allt og bældu en
landsfólk gekk víða undir þá. Það var og sagt með að Haraldur
væri meiri en aðrir menn og sterkari og svo vitur að honum
var ekki ófært og hann hafði ávallt sigur er hann barðist.
Hann var og svo auðigur að gulli að engi vissi dæmi til.

Svo segir Þjóðólfur.

Nú er valmeiðum víðis,

veit drótt mikinn ótta,

skeiðr hefir her fyr hauðri,

hætt góðs friðar vætta.

Mildr vill Magnús halda

morðs hlunngotum norðan,

ítr, en önnur skreytir

unnvigg Haraldr sunnan.
