Eftir um vorið fengu þeir sér skipan og fóru um sumarið
austur í Garðaríki á fund Jarisleifs konungs og voru þar um
veturinn.

Svo segir Bölverkur:

Mildingr, straukstu um mækis

munn er lést af gunni.

Holds vannst hrafn um fylldan

hrás. Þaut vargr í ási.

En gramr, né eg frá fremra

friðskerði þér verða,

austr varstu ár hið næsta,

örðuglyndr, í Görðum.

Jarisleifur konungur tók vel við þeim Haraldi. Gerðist
Haraldur þá höfðingi yfir landvarnarmönnum konungs, og annar
Eilífur, sonur Rögnvalds jarls.

Svo segir Þjóðólfur:

Eitt höfðust at,

Eilífr þar er sat,

höfðingjar tveir.

Hamalt fylktu þeir.

Austr-Vindum ók

í öngvan krók.

Vara Læsum léttr

liðsmanna réttr.

Haraldur dvaldist í Garðaríki nokkura vetur og fór víða um
Austurveg. Síðan byrjaði hann ferð sína út í Grikkland og
hafði mikla sveit manna. Þá hélt hann til Miklagarðs.

Svo segir Bölverkur:

Hart kníði svöl svartan

snekkju brand fyr landi

skúr, en skrautla báru

skeiður brynjaðar reiði.

Mætr hilmir sá málma

Miklagarðs fyr barði.

Mörg skriðu beit að borgar

barmfögr hám armi.
