Þá er Haraldur konungur var fertugur að aldri þá voru margir
synir hans vel á legg komnir. Þeir voru allir bráðgervir. Kom
þá svo að þeir undu illa við er konungur gaf þeim ekki ríki
en setti jarl í hverju fylki og þótti þeim jarlar vera
smábornari en þeir voru.

Þá fóru til á einu vori Hálfdan háleggur og Guðröður ljómi
með mikla sveit manna og komu á óvart Rögnvaldi Mærajarli og
tóku hús á honum og brenndu hann inni við sex tigu manna. Þá
tók Hálfdan langskip þrjú og skipaði og siglir síðan vestur
um haf en Guðröður settist þar að löndum sem áður hafði haft
Rögnvaldur jarl.

En er Haraldur konungur spurði þetta þá fór hann þegar með
liði miklu á hendur Guðröði. Sá Guðröður engan annan sinn
kost en gefast upp í vald Haralds konungs og sendi konungur
hann austur á Agðir. En Haraldur konungur setti þá yfir Mæri
Þóri son Rögnvalds jarls og gifti honum Ólöfu dóttur sína er
kölluð var árbót. Þórir jarl þegjandi hafði þá ríki þvílíkt
sem haft hafði Rögnvaldur jarl faðir hans.
