Hálfdan konungur fór um haustið út á Vingulmörk.

Það var á einni nótt þar sem Hálfdan konungur var á veislu að
um miðnætti kom til hans maður sá er hestvörð hélt og sagði
honum að her var kominn nær bænum.

Konungur stóð upp þegar og bað hirðmenn sína vopna sig. Síðan
gengur hann út í garðinn og fylkti. Því næst komu þar
Gandálfssynir, Hýsingur og Helsingur, með lið mikið og tókst
þegar orusta. En fyrir því að Hálfdan konungur var ofurliði
borinn flýði hann til skógar og lét mart manna. Þar féll
Ölvir hinn spaki fósturfaðir Hálfdanar konungs.

Eftir það dreif lið til konungs. Fór hann þá að leita
Gandálfssona og hittust á Eiði við Eyja og berjast. Þar féll
Hýsingur og Helsingur en Haki bróðir þeirra kom á flótta.
Eftir það lagði Hálfdan konungur undir sig alla Vingulmörk en
Haki flýði í Álfheima.
