Hákon jarl fór einn vetur til Upplanda og á nokkura gisting
og lagðist með konu einni og var sú lítillar ættar. En þá er
þaðan liðu stundir gekk sú kona með barni. En er barn það var
alið var það sveinn og var vatni ausinn og hét Eiríkur.
Móðirin flutti sveininn til Hákonar jarls og segir að hann
var faðirinn.



Jarl lét sveininn upp fæðast með manni þeim er kallaður var
Þorleifur hinn spaki. Hann bjó uppi í Meðaldal. Hann var
ríkur maður og auðigur og vinur mikill jarls. Var Eiríkur
brátt mannvænn, hinn fríðasti sýnum, mikill og sterkur
snemma. Jarl lét fátt um til hans.



Hákon jarl var og allra manna fríðastur sýnum, ekki hár
maður, vel sterkur og íþróttamaður mikill, spakur að viti og
hermaður hinn mesti.
