Hálfdan hét sonur Eysteins konungs er konungdóm tók eftir
hann. Hann var kallaður Hálfdan hinn mildi og hinn matarilli.
Svo er sagt að hann gaf þar í mála mönnum sínum jafnmarga
gullpeninga sem aðrir konungar silfurpeninga en hann svelti
menn að mat. Hann var hermaður mikill og var löngum í víkingu
og fékk sér fjár. Hann átti Hlíf dóttur Dags konungs af
Vestmörum. Holtar á Vestfold var höfuðbær hans. Þar varð hann
sóttdauður og er hann heygður á Borró.



Svo segir Þjóðólfur:



Og til þings

þriðja jöfri

Hveðrungs mær

úr heimi bauð,

þá er Hálfdan

sá er á holti bjó,

norna dóms

um notið hafði.

Og buðlung

á Borrói

sigrhafendr

síðan fálu.
