Eysteinn sonur Hálfdanar hvítbeins er konungur var eftir hann
á Raumaríki og á Vestfold, hann átti Hildi dóttur Eiríks
Agnarssonar er konungur var á Vestfold. Agnar faðir Eiríks
var sonur Sigtryggs konungs af Vindli. Eiríkur konungur átti
engan son. Hann dó þá er Hálfdan konungur hvítbeinn lifði.
Tóku þeir feðgar Hálfdan og Eysteinn þá undir sig alla
Vestfold. Réð Eysteinn Vestfold meðan hann lifði.

Þá var sá konungur á Vörnu er Skjöldur hét. Hann var allmjög
fjölkunnigur. Eysteinn konungur fór með herskip nokkur yfir á
Vörnu og herjaði þar, tók slíkt er fyrir varð, klæði og aðra
gripi og gögn búanda og hjuggu strandhögg, fóru í brott
síðan.

Skjöldur konungur kom til strandar með her sinn. Var Eysteinn
konungur þá í brottu og kominn yfir fjörðinn og sá Skjöldur
segl þeirra. Þá tók hann möttul sinn og veifði og blés við.
Þá er þeir sigldu inn um Jarlsey sat Eysteinn konungur við
stýri. Skip annað sigldi nær þeim. Báruskot nokkuð var í.
Laust beitiásinn af öðru skipi konung fyrir borð. Það var
hans bani. Menn hans náðu líkinu. Var það flutt inn á Borró
og orpinn haugur eftir á röðinni út við sjá við Vöðlu.

Svo segir Þjóðólfur:

En Eysteinn

fyr ási fór

til Býleists

bróður meyjar,

og nú liggr

und lagar beinum

rekks löðuðr

á raðar broddi,

þar er élkaldr

hjá jöfur gauskum

Vöðlu straumr

að vogi kemr.
