Fyrir austan Tanakvísl í Asíu var kallað Ásaland eða
Ásaheimur en höfuðborgin, er í var landinu, kölluðu þeir
Ásgarð. En í borginni var höfðingi sá er Óðinn var kallaður.
Þar var blótstaður mikill. Það var þar siður að tólf hofgoðar
voru æðstir. Skyldu þeir ráða fyrir blótum og dómum manna í
milli. Það eru díar kallaðir eða drottnar. Þeim skyldi
þjónustu veita og lotning allt fólk.

Óðinn var hermaður mikill og mjög víðförull og eignaðist mörg
ríki. Hann var svo sigursæll að í hverri orustu fékk hann
gagn og svo kom að hans menn trúðu því að hann ætti heimilan
sigur í hverri orustu. Það var háttur hans, ef hann sendi
menn sína til orustu eða aðrar sendifarar, að hann lagði áður
hendur í höfuð þeim og gaf þeim bjannak. Trúðu þeir að þá
mundi vel farast. Svo var og um hans menn, hvar sem þeir urðu
í nauðum staddir á sjá eða landi, þá kölluðu þeir á nafn hans
og þótti jafnan fá af því fró. Þar þóttust þeir eiga allt
traust er hann var. Hann fór oft svo langt í brott að hann
dvaldist í ferðinni mörg misseri.
