Stanzas 5-9 document Magnús’s harrying in the Hebrides, along the coast of Scotland and on the Isle of Man during his first campaign to the west in 1098 (see Introduction to the poem above).

The half-st. is recorded in Hkr and H-Hr only, where it is given as ll. 1-4 of our st. 7. According to the prose of Mork, F and Fsk (ÍF 29, 307), Magnús first descended on the island of Lewis in his series of attacks on the Hebrides.
