The helmingr is cited among several illustrating poetic terms for ‘fire’.
Kock (NN §896), attempting to make the word order less disjointed, construes blóði ‘blood’ (l. 4) with fellr ‘falls’ (l. 4) (hence ‘falls in blood’), and allmǫrg ‘very many’ (l. 2) with øx ‘axe’ (l. 1), hence ‘very many an axe’.
