Konungr bað menn forvitnask, hvárt engin sæi líkindi til, at þat hefði heim komit. Varðmenn gerðu svá ok kómu skjótt aptr sǫgðu konungi, at dýrit fœri þar ok heldr geyst borginni. Konungr bað hirðmenn vera nú hrausta duga hvern eptir því, sem hann hefði hug til, ok ráða af óvætt þennan; ok svá var gǫrt sem bauð, at þeir bjuggu sik til þess.
