See Introduction above. The speaker and his stanza are introduced in Fsk, Þá var annarr til leiddr. Sá mælti þetta ok hló at ‘Then another was led forward. He spoke this and laughed’. In Jvs, the introduction is more elaborate. The outcome of the scene is that the Jómsvíkingr is offered quarter by Eiríkr jarl, presumably on account of his bold conduct, and he accepts.
Notes: [All]: For a later skaldic account of the executions following the battle of Hjǫrungavágr, and of the quarter given to Vagn Ákason and twelve others, see Bjbp Jóms 40-5. — [1] jarli ‘the jarl’: The implication of the prose of Fsk and Jvs is that this is Eiríkr Hákonarson of Hlaðir (Lade). — [3] vas mér títt ‘occupied me’: Kock (NN §2983; Skald) prints the m. v. vǫrumk instead of vas mér, with the same meaning. The phrase vera títt has the sense ‘to happen, be employed with’ (Fritzner, LP: tíðr 1).
