Skáldatal (
SnE 1848-87,
III, 254, 275) lists
Þórarinn Skeggjason (ÞSkegg) among the poets of Haraldr harðráði, but he is otherwise entirely unknown. His patronymic suggests that he may have been a brother of the Icel. poet and lawspeaker
Markús Skeggjason (Mark; d. 1107), who, according to Ari fróði ‘the Learned’ Þorgilsson, had a brother named Þórarinn (see
ÍF 1, 22;
SnE 1848-87,
III, 604-5;
LH 1894-1901, I, 637). The
helmingr below is the only poetry attributed to Þórarinn.
