Stanzas 1-2 of this poem about Magnús inn góði Óláfsson (Okík Magn) are recorded in all mss of Hkr (39, F, E, J2ˣ), as well as in H, Hr (H-Hr) and Flat (Flat), and st. 2 is also given in Fsk (FskAˣ). The two sts must also have been part of Mork (Mork), which has a lacuna at this point (in Mork 1928-32 and in Andersson and Gade 2000, the lacuna has been filled with the text from Flat). Stanza 3 is preserved in Mork, H, Hr and Flat. The name of the poet is given in Hkr (sts 1-2), Fsk (st. 2) and in H-Hr (sts 1-3). Flat attributes the first st. to Þjóðólfr Arnórsson (ÞjóðA) and the next two to Oddr (Flat 1860-8, III, 284, 334). In Flat sts 2-3 are given without intervening prose, whereas in H-Hr st. 3 is a lv. recited in response to a question. Skj (and Skald) follows H-Hr and treats this st. as a separate lv. Flat, which reproduces the Mork text more faithfully than H-Hr, makes no such distinction, and the compiler of the archetype (*H) of H-Hr likely added the prose surrounding st. 3 (see also Fidjestøl 1982, 132-3). Moreover it is clear that st. 2, which commemorates Magnús’s death in 1047, cannot belong to a poem composed around 1046, the date given in Skj A. In the present edn, all three sts are assigned to the same poem (composed after Magnús’s death in 1047). In AM 761 b 4°ˣ (761bˣ) Árni Magnússon (at 247r) tentatively includes Anon (MH) in this poem (but see SnE 1848-87, III, 577). That attribution seems attractive (see Fidjestøl 1982, 132-3) but speculative, because the st. is anonymous in all mss.
