Designed to exemplify human social wisdom and culminating in Óðinn recounting his own quest for knowledge, Hávamál contains four primary stanzas which detail Óðinn’s ritual hanging.
It appears that through use of the runes, Óðinn is able to take knowledge from his dead maternal uncle (Bǫlþór) as well as acquiring the Mead of Poetry.
