This episode occurs within the longer narrative Ynglinga saga, in which Freyja dwells in Uppsala. The saga is the first in the collection of kings’ sagas known as Heimskringla, which was probably composed and compiled by the 13th-century Icelandic scholar Snorri Sturluson.
