context

The accounts below occur within the narrative Gísla saga Súrssonar. The saga centres around one of Iceland’s greatest outlaws, Gísli Súrsson, and is thought to have been written mid- to late-13th century. This text is based on the 15th-century vellum manuscript AM 556 a 4to, although a longer and slightly different version of Gísla saga also exists. In the accounts below, Gísli’s brother-in-law Þórgrímr sacrifices to Freyr.
