context
This episode occurs in the longer narrative Víga-Glúms saga, preserved fully in the vellum manuscript Möðruvallabók and thought be written early- to -mid-13th century. In this scene, Glúmr has to swear an oath and prove that he did not commit Þorvaldr krókr's ('hook') murder. The oath is to be taken five weeks before the beginning of winter, in three different temples.
