Snorri describes how chief sacrifices occurred at Uppsala during the 'heathen' month Gói, along with an assembly, market and fair. Snorri states that in Christian times, the market and assembly continued at Uppsala but the date was changed to coincide with the Christian festival Candlemas. He describes the geography of Sweden in association to its bishoprics and churches.

This short episode occurs as part of the longer narrative Ólafs saga Helga. This version of the saga occurs within the wider prose work Heimskringla, although there are several versions and written accounts of of Ólafr's life.
