In describing her own powers, Heiðr demonstrates that seið could be used for both positive (prophecy, spells) and negative effects (affecting minds).
It has been frequently suggested that Heiðr is an alternate name for the giantess Gullveig (who suffers being speared and burned but is reborn each time) mentioned in the previous stanza (21).
