In this instance, seið is used in a direct manner in order to harm another in the form of affecting the weather and summoning a blizzard whilst their enemies are afloat at sea. It is interesting to note that the author calls specific attention to the chanting en það voru galdrar 'and that was sorcery'.
The figures responsible fit the 'common' pattern for workers of sorcery with their position as outsiders of the community and hailing from a far away place, in this case, the remote Hebrides.
