Steigar-Þórir Þórðarson (Þórir of Steig; SteigÞ) was a powerful Norw. district chieftain who had been a retainer of Haraldr harðráði Sigurðarson. He was the foster-father of King Hákon Magnússon, the cousin of King Magnús berfœttr Óláfsson. Upon Hákon’s death in 1094, Þórir joined an uprising against Magnús and tried to install a Dan. pretender, Sveinn Haraldsson, on the Norw. throne. He was captured by Magnús in 1094 and subsequently hanged. See Genealogy IV in ÍF 28.
