[2] viðr ‘the timber’: Taken here to refer to the planking, in keeping with the other parts of the ship mentioned in the st. (‘rowlock’, ‘ropes’, ‘mast’). Viðr could also be used pars pro toto for ‘ship’ (see LP: viðr 5).
