Note to Sjórs Lv 1II

[All]: In Skj B, Finnur Jónsson appears to include byggt land ‘the populated land’ (l. 2) in the first cl. and in apposition to búendr ‘the farmers (l. 1). He translates the couplet as follows: Bønderne tykkes mig de bedste, det befolkede land og at freden består ‘The farmers seem to me the best, the populated land and that the peace endures’. In the present edn, standi ‘may endure’ (l. 2) is taken as 3rd pers. pl. pret. subj. with the subjects byggt land ‘the populated land’ and friðr ‘the peace’ (both l. 2).
