[All]: Lat. parallel: (Dist. IV, 30) Cum Venere et Baccho vis est et iuncta voluptas: quod lautum est, animo complectere, sed fuge lites ‘Between Venus and Bacchus there is both struggle and pleasure; embrace that which is pleasant in your mind; but avoid the strife’. The warning not to drink too much is also expressed in st. 116. Cf. the commentary there. Once again, the Icel. poet avoids mentioning classical deities.
