[2] h… þǫp…: The ‘h’ is predicted by the alliteration in the first l. Kock’s conjecture Hlín Þeópista tíndi (NN §3135), puts the name in a metrical position which it does not otherwise fill; also, the second of the visible letters is certainly <ꜵ> not <eo>. Jón Helgason 1932-3 saw no possibility other than reconstructing the l. as hýr þopta nam skýra ‘the friendly thwart ... [WOMAN] began to explain’ or hrein þopta nam greina ‘the pure thwart ... [WOMAN] began to expound’, suggestions that depend on the likelihood that <ꜵ> can represent <o>, either intentionally or by mistake.
