Jón Helgason 1932-3 saw no possibility other than reconstructing the l. as hýr þopta nam skýra ‘the friendly thwart ... [WOMAN] began to explain’ or hrein þopta nam greina ‘the pure thwart ... [WOMAN] began to expound’, suggestions that depend on the likelihood that <ꜵ> can represent <o>, either intentionally or by mistake.
