Note to Eil Þdr 15III

[5, 6, 7, 8] hvôrutveggja sprundi hellis ‘of both women of the cave [GIANTESSES]’: This is a typical kenning for ‘giantess’ whose conventional determinant may have been chosen to suit the situation – a fight in the giant’s cave. Presumably sprundi (n. dat. sg.) is a dat. of respect, used with possessive sense (cf. NS §100 Anm. 3).
