[1] firnabjúgir ‘overly stooping’: The sense of this adj. is not entirely clear: it could mean that the men were stooping because they had already been wounded by hurled stones, or that they were ducking to avoid them. The first element of the cpd, firna- (gen. pl. of firn ‘something extraordinary’), is used as an intensifier (cf. Fritzner: firn).
