[5] hró (f.) ‘mound’: In Old Norse, this heiti is not found elsewhere, but cf. ModIcel. hró(n) ‘a small plot of dry land above water’. The word is possibly related to hrúga f. ‘heap’ (Ásgeir Blöndal Magnússon 1950, 121; ÍO: hró 1). Alternatively, it may be connected with hrúðr m. ‘crust, scab’ (cf. Lat. crēscō ‘grow’; AEW: hró).
