[8] Fimbulþul (f.): Lit. ‘mighty mumbler’ (so Faulkes 1987, 161). A mythical river (Grí 27/4; Gylf, SnE 2005, 9, 33) whose first element is fimbul- ‘mighty, great’. The second element is related to the weak verb þylja ‘chant, murmur’ (cf. þula). The m. form, fimbulþulr, refers to Óðinn in Hávm 80/5, 142/5.
