The cpd probably means ‘one built of thin planks’ (so LP: Skíðblaðnir; from a cpd *skíðblað ‘piece of wood blade’ plus the suffix ‑nir; cf. Blaðnir ‘single-bit blade’, the name of a sword; Falk 1914b, 47).
