Note to Þul Øxar 1III

[5] reginspǫnn (f.) ‘mighty-span’: A cpd formed from regin- ‘divine powers’ (also used as first element in compounds in the sense ‘powerful, mighty’) and spǫnn ‘span’ (as a measure). It is not clear how this can be a term for ‘axe’ – Falk (1914b, 115) tentatively suggests that it refers to a very broad axe. The heiti is not attested elsewhere.
