[2] ljóthrǫmmuðustum ‘the very ugly-pawed’: Hap. leg.; a sup. adj. derived from hrammr ‘paw’. The mss have ‘liotrannadastom’, which most earlier eds emend to ljótrǫnuðustum ‘the very ugly-snouted’, from the adj. ljótr ‘ugly’ and rani m. ‘snout’; SnE 1848, 245 retains the ms. reading but does not explain what this word means. The metre requires a long syllable in position 2 (cf. papp25ˣ, R683‘: ‘-rann-’), however, and <mm> (or <m̄>) could have been misread as <nn> (initial h- in the cluster hr- is consistently omitted in Rugman’s transcriptions). For Norwegian lack of u-umlaut in the ms. transcriptions of this word (‘-rannadastom’), as well as in ‘-sceptadadstom’ and ‘-oddadastom’ (ll. 6, 8), see Note to st. 63/8.
