[5] morðs ‘of battle’: The ms. readings are difficult to make sense of, and the fact that the word is underlined in papp25ˣ shows that Rugman was uncertain of the reading. For the spelling of this word, see Note to st. 65/7. Móðr ‘tired’ in R683ˣ (so also SnE 1848, 245) looks like a later lectio facilior and leaves môr ‘seagull’ (l. 5) without a determinant. The present emendation is in keeping with most earlier eds.
