Notes:
This is the 1st of 18 parts of Þiðriks saga af Bern, such as the whole work was organised in the critical edition by Henrik Bertelsen (København, 1905–1911). This part is based on the younger Icelandic paper manuscript AM 178 fol, in a few places replaced by readings from another Icelandic manuscript, AM 177 fol. It has a post-medieval Icelandic orthography, although it ultimately is based on a medieval text. It corresponds to Bertelsen’s edition, vol. 1, pp. 1.1–43.23 (in the manuscript, fols. 1r.1–17r.17).
The texts in the Menota archive are in general based on a single manuscript (or a fragment of a manuscript), and are thus uniquely identified by the manuscript siglum. As for Þiðriks saga af Bern, the annotation of the text at Gammelnorsk Ordboksverk in Oslo was based on the critical edition by Henrik Bertelsen (København, 2 vols., 1905–1911). Since the medieval manuscript, Holm perg 4 fol, has a number of lacunas, Bertelsen filled these gaps with readings from a late Icelandic manuscript, AM 178 fol (sometimes with variants from AM 177 fol). Furthermore, of the five identified hands in Holm perg 4 fol, hands 1 and 2 are regarded as having Old Norwegian orthography and hands 3, 4 and 5 Old Icelandic orthography. As a consequence of this rather complex situation, the whole text of Þiðriks saga af Bern has been divided into no less than 18 parts in the Menota archive, divided between the two manuscripts Holm perg 4 fol and AM 178 fol, so that it is clear which parts have Old Norwegian, Old Icelandic and post-medieval Icelandic orthography respectively.

Bertelsen page 1-32, note 24: A Boltram Einginballdur; B Hertram og Reiginballd
The remaining nine words are rendered according to the main manuscript AM 178 fol (ms. A), unlike the edition of Bertelsen, which follows AM 177 fol (ms. B) here. The reading in A is given in the apparatus of Bertelsen’s edition, so for this reason, line number 22 is only indicative.
