Ólafur Tryggvason var þrjá vetur á Vindlandi áður Geira kona
hans tók sótt þá er hana leiddi til bana. Ólafi þótti það svo
mikill skaði að hann festi ekki yndi á Vindlandi síðan. Réð
hann sér þá til herskipa og fór enn í hernað, herjaði fyrst
um Frísland og þar næst um Saxland og allt í Flæmingjaland.

Svo segir Hallfreður vandræðaskáld:

Tíðhöggvið lét tyggi,

Tryggva sonr, fyr styggvan

Leiknar hest á lesti,

ljótvaxinn, hræ Saxa.

Vinhróðigr gaf víða

vísi margra Frísa

blökku brúnt að drekka

blóð kveldriðu stóði.

Rógs brá rekka lægir

ríkr Valkera líki.

Herstefnir lét hröfnum

hold Flæmingja goldið.
