Ólafur konungur lét bjóða um Víkina kristin lög með sama hætti sem norður í landi og gekk vel fram því að Víkverjum voru miklu kunnari kristnir siðir en mönnum norður í landið því að þar var bæði vetur og sumar fjölmennt af kaupmönnum, bæði dönskum og saxneskum. Víkverjar höfðust og mjög í kaupferðum til Englands og Saxlands eða Flæmingjalands eða Danmerkur en sumir voru í víking og höfðu vetursetu á kristnum löndum.
