Biography

Kari Ellen Gade 2009, ‘(Biography of) Ingimarr af Aski Sveinsson’ in Kari Ellen Gade (ed.), Poetry from the Kings’ Sagas 2: From c. 1035 to c. 1300. Skaldic Poetry of the Scandinavian Middle Ages 2. Turnhout: Brepols, pp. 497-8.

Ingimarr af Aski Sveinsson (Ingimarr) is known from his dealings with the Icelander Gullásu-Þórðr (GullásÞ; see Mork 1928-32, 359-64; Fms 7, 111-18; ÍF 11, 337-49). He was a Norw. district chieftain who fell out of favour with King Eysteinn Magnússon (d. 1122) and fled to Denmark. When Ingimarr returned, he became the staunch supporter of Haraldr gilli(-kristr) ‘servant (of Christ)’ Magnússon (d. 1136) and died at the battle of Färlev (Fyrileif) between Haraldr and Magnús inn blindi ‘the Blind’ Sigurðarson on 9 August 1134 (ÍF 28, 280-2; ÍF 34, 140-2). See also Hskv Hardr 1 and GullásÞ Lv. No other poetry by Ingimarr survives, and he is not mentioned in Skáldatal.
