Ölværir urðu
ok elda kyndu,
hugðu vætr véla
er þeir vóru komnir;
tóku þeir fórnir
er þeim fríðr sendi,
hengðu ásúlu,
hugðut það varða.   (eddic or germanic)

(They were most welcoming, stoked up the fires,
they perceived no treachery when those men had come;
