Gjörðir þik frægjan
Þú vart brúðr Grana
gör til rásar,
hafða ek þér móðri
margt skeið riðið
svangri und söðli,
simul, forbergis! (eddic or germanic)
(You made yourself infamous for abominable acts.
‘You were Grani’s bride on Bravoll plain,*
a gold bit in your mouth, you were ready to leap;
I’ve ridden you to exhaustion over many a stretch of road,
a jaded hack under my saddle, down the mountain.’
